Things
were tough for UK rifle shooters after the 1988 SLR ban, but that was nothing
compared to what a 'democratic' government can, and did, do in 1997 to
appease a biased media's need for revenge at any cost. This, coupled with
their (each political party's) quest to outdo each other in appearing caring
while trying to gain as many votes as possible, resulting in the handgun
ban, left the UK shooting community in a state of disarray.
But the British shooter is made of tougher stuff. Many clubs and ex-pistol shooters have turned to new disciplines in a bid to recapture the enjoyment and excitement they used to get from their sport. Many of the older and more established disciplines have seen an increase in participation. Indeed, the expected fall in club membership of the clubs I frequent never materialized, membership has actually increased. Even some of the less enthusiastic members are making an appearance more often. Could this be the 'at least once a year' rule taking affect, or more likely 'if I don't do it now....'?
Well, these are my pages dedicated to the art
of the marksman and hopefully they will help encourage some to try this
rewarding sport. I hope to update the information contained within regularly.
